HOW TO TAKE SHARP PHOTOS WITH SMARTPHONES

HOW TO TAKE SHARP PHOTOS WITH SMARTPHONES

Know your mobile camera specifications like F-stops,Pixel,Image stabilization and Focus modes
F.Stops:
F-stops are aperture number or lens aperture
Aperture is essentially an opening of a lens's diaphragm through which light passes. It works much like the iris and pupil of an eye, by controlling the amount of light which reaches the retina. A bigger aperture hole lets your smartphone camera sensor gather more light, which it needs to produce quality images.
The size of a lens aperture is described by its F-number, which is calculated using the lens focal length to the diameter aperture. As such, a larger F-number refers to a smaller hole, and therefore less light getting through. This is why smartphone camera manufacturers brag about larger apertures, with smaller F-numbers.
As you move along the F-stops F1.4, F2, F2.8, F4, F5.6, F8, and so on, the aperture halves (half the amount of light passes through) on each stop.

i am using REDMI NOTE-3 smartphone with f-stop f/2.0 so from this we can how sensitive your mobile lens for low light photography. So check about f-stops before buying mobile. most recent release smartphones are equipped with f/1.8 so choose wise..
Pixels:
Here its next important part of camera while shooting at photos with enough light (aperture). More megapixels means not more picture quality.simple to explain more pixels helps you to capture more details of a seen.why? cropping of image will be answer and zoom factor will be mainly based on pixels count. A single megapixels contains one million pixels, so now 16 mega pixels means 16 million tiny squares of information per inch. Pixel quality matters more than actual pixel count.
so now smaller megapixels also can yield good photos so if you have less megapixel phone also dont feel this dont matters for good photography. If less pixel smartphone you have then make more pixels get what information you needed most.

above picture explains neatly. more pixels means you can capture more information of image helps you can crop image to your requirement but still quality remains..even you can zoom to your requirement still quality remains.
Now you should maintain the image size by pixel quality of phone.

Image stabilization:
Next important thing, this single thing can show great difference from pro photographer to newbie. image stabilization simply means that taking images with less shaking of phone.
tip: if you taking photos by hand use both hands for better quality images
using tripods and mono pods helps a aid for image stabilization.
Most smart phones coming now with OIS ->Optical Image Stabilization has been around commercially since the mid-90s when it started being used in compact cameras and SLR lenses as a method of letting photographers shoot longer exposures without reaching for a tripod. It works by moving lens elements to counteract wobbly hand-induced camera shake, thereby reducing blur.
Twenty years later, OIS has now become a mainstay feature of flagship smartphones where it's arguably even more useful. Because the image sensors used in smartphones are so much smaller than those in traditional cameras, they can struggle to get enough light in some conditions. As such they'll often end up using exposure times which increase the likelihood of camera shake and blurry images.

OIS works by controlling the path of the image through the lens and onto the image sensor. This is done by understanding the camera's movement using sensors such as gyroscopes, and calculating how the lens needs to move to counteract this. The lens module is then generally moved sideways or up and down, normally by using electromagnet motors. All of this happens as the image is recorded to reduce camera movement blur.

If your phone have this feature then you are lucky to have that phone it not no problem you have both hands and even devices like tripods for image stabilization.
Redmi note 3 has no OIS but i have both hands helping me for this

Focus modes:
we have 2modes normally for any smart phone
1)Auto focus
2)Manual focus
AutoFocus means simply focus on the go...if you press shutter button on your phone simply to capture a scenery then its autofocus mode. Means that smartphone automatically calculate best focus areas and let you take good pictures its good for distance photography where you have many points to focus. This may give good results or may be not some times.
Tip: better take multiple shots in autofocus
Manual focus means focus to particular part of image this is more important coming to the sharp images.
but how? simple by touching the part of the picture on screen let smartphone manually focus to the particular part of the picture.
Now this enough to get that sharp images?...NO
why? even if you take care of everything also you may get good photos but they are may not great when viewed in large screens.
Using photo editing apps helps a lot here......HOW?
Photo editing apps like Pixlr helps a lot in editing photo as per our requirement. But they may be confusing always more and more of options lot of settings....dont worry i will simplify for you
follow steps:
1)install pixlr app from google play
2)open pixlr app and choose photos button and choose pic to edit
3)in bottom line there are buttons to select1)tools 2)brushes 3)effects 4)boarders 5)text now select 1
4)choose crop to crop the image to your requirement
5)next select sharpen and select the value by checking to best sharp image by zooming with fingers
6)select adjustment now choose values between exposure, contrast, brightness and saturation
7)now press done in top next window press save image
8)save by selecting Max and press ok

now comapre to original pic and edited pic.
Hope this tutorial helps you.
